Position Overview

The Java Developer has experience with web based applications, this knowledge should include J2EE, JavaScript, JSP, Servlet, EJB, JDBC development, knowledge of JBoss and a good understanding of relational databases such as MySQL. Applicant must have excellent communications skills and comfort working within a team environment and with end users. Applicant must be self motivated, work well in ambiguous situations and have solid debugging skills.

This position requires a well versed coding experience background and the ability to develop custom applications to meet the specific business needs of the company. The Java Developer will work closely with the Lead Architect, Senior Developer, Project Manager, as well as other project members and participate in project design/build, in addition to participating in integration testing and project design meetings. No relocation assistance provided.

Essential Functions

Principal Accountabilities & Authority
  • Enhance and support Java and MySQL web applications
  • Collaborate with other developers on new functionality requests and production issues
  • Develop applications using standard Java and MySQL development toolsets
  • Unit test applications using standard testing methodologies
  • Assist other developers when requested
  • Accountable for meeting delivery dates on assigned projects and tasks
  • Skill and aptitude to handle support calls and emails surrounding site's functionality
  • Support the business during after hours as needed
  • Answers incoming calls and responds to the customer’s questions and concerns regarding product
  • Researches customer inquiries and enters notes in the system to facilitate assisting the customer
  • Completes follow up outbound calls as needed to keep customers informed
  • Demonstrates professionalism by creating a positive image for JumpTech on all calls and emails
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.), preferably in computer science or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience

  • A minimum of 8-years of software development experience
  • A minimum of 5-years of Java and database experience
  • Relational database experience in: MySQL, SQL Server, Oracle or Sybase
  • Experience in designing, developing, deploying and supporting various web applications
  • Experience with UNIX operating systems
  • Experience in inventory management would be helpful
  • Good technical and communication skills
  • Knowledge and hands-on experience with various diagnostic methods to solve web site issues or problems
  • Experience working with version control software such as PVCS, Subversion, or SourceSafe
  • Experience with SalesForce or related incident and contact management software
  • Experience with defect tracking software, such as Bugzilla, Test-Track, Remedy or other brands
  • Knowledge and experience with a variety of testing methods such as unit testing, system integration, stress and load testing of Internet sites
  • At least six months of customer service or related experience
  • Familiar with keyboard and basic computer skills—including Windows based programs

Travel

  • Less than 10% travel, when scheduled

Physical Activity

Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds with no less than a 40-db loss. Ability to receive oral communication and make fine discriminations in sound.

Operators: This is a minimum standard for those whose job requires work done at close visual range. (i.e. preparing and analyzing data and figures, clerical and administrative functions, accounting, computer terminal use, and extensive reading.

Physical Requirements

Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

Conditions

Individual not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions—typical office or administrative work setting.
